Illness Policy & Covid Precautions
The following statement is subject to change as we navigate this pandemic:
Hazelwood and its employees take the Corona Virus and its variants very seriously. We will continue to follow the guidelines set by the CDC and the state when it comes to mask wearing at school. All Hazelwood staff and any substitutes/parent volunteers will be expected to be up to date with any and all Covid related vaccines as directed and recommended by the CDC. Currently, we are only enrolling children who come from fully vaccinated homes with members who are old enough and able. Proof of household vaccinations will be required for enrollment.
Temperature checks of teachers and students will be conducted daily upon arrival. Teachers will be required to wear proper masks inside and outside during school hours and/or while on school property and participating in any school outings. As of now, masks are optional outside for the students and strongly encouraged inside until the children are old enough for a vaccine. Extra masks for adults and children will be available when needed. There will always be ventilation as well as an air purifier well suited for the space.
Each family must commit to traveling and gathering responsibly during this time. I will not be policing families, but I hope each family agrees to be mindful of the spreading of the virus when planning family outings. If you do travel, you will need to quarantine before your child returns to school as recommended and outlined by the CDC at the time of travel. In the event that is a possible exposure or a member of our school contracts the virus, we will be taking the same steps and families will be notified. If possible, a safe and reliable substitute has been selected.
Thank you all for understanding as we strive to maintain a healthy and happy environment for our children!
IF ANYONE IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD BECOMES EXPOSED TO THE VIRUS, OR SHOWS SIGNIFICANT SYMPTOMS, WE ASK THAT YOU TAKE THE PROPER STEPS TO ENSURE HEALTH BEFORE COMING BACK TO THE SCHOOL. UNFORTUNATELY, CHILDREN WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND IF THEY SHOW NOTABLE SYMPTOMS OR IF THEY, OR A MEMBER OF THEIR HOUSEHOLD, CONTRACTS THE VIRUS. THEY WILL NEED TO REMAIN HOME UNTIL A NEGATIVE TEST IS PRESENTED AS GUIDED BY THE CDC.
If a child has any of the following symptoms, they should stay home from school or will be sent home from school if observed by a teacher:
Illness that prevents the child from participating comfortably in program activities.
Illness that results in a greater need for care than our staff can provide without
compromising the health and safety of other children.
Illness that poses a risk of spreading harmful disease to others.
Fever (100° armpit, 101° orally, 102° aural/ear)
Behavior changes or other signs and symptoms such as sore throat, rash, vomiting,
diarrhea, lethargy, irritability, constant crying, or difficulty breathing.
